About Oklahoma Agweather

Cooperative Project Between OSU, OU, and OCS:

AgWeather is a cooperative project between Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Climatological Survey. The professionals and faculty from these three institutions bring together expertise in the areas of meteorology, climatology, agricultural production, and natural resource management. This professional team works together to provide Oklahoma citizens with the Oklahoma Mesonet, one of the finest weather data collection and reporting systems in the world. The Oklahoma Mesonet brings together the expertise from Oklahoma’s two major universities to create a single winning Oklahoma team.

Organized the Way You Work:

AgWeather is a newly revised web site organized for agricultural producers, agricultural service industry professionals, and natural resource managers. While the weather can be complex, AgWeather provides easy access to a wide array of weather data and products. We like to say, "It's weather organized the way you work."

Decision Support:

As a person who earns your living in agriculture or natural resource management, you're faced with tough decisions everyday. The Oklahoma Mesonet's AgWeather web site provides the resources you need to make great decisions everyday. On the AgWeather web site, you'll find the latest Oklahoma weather and soil information, decision-making tools for agriculture and natural resources management, links to commodity markets, access to OSU production publications, and links to producer associations. All this brings together in a one-stop shop, the critical information you need to manage day-to-day operations and do long-range planning.

Your Weather Monitor:

On the AgWeather web site, you'll have access to Oklahoma weather information updated every 15 minutes. The Oklahoma Mesonet is one of the finest weather monitoring networks in the world. It's like having a 24-hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week weatherman in over 110 locations across Oklahoma. The Mesonet towers have been collecting data for every 5-minute period, every day of the year since 1994. The data is automatically collected, tabulated, checked for accuracy, and displayed in a wide array of formats and products.

Agriculture Models:

Whether you're a producer who manages an agricultural operation or professional serving agricultural enterprises, you'll find the AgWeather agricultural models can help stretch irrigation and pest control expenses. The Evapotranspiration Model can help you track crop water use and aid in irrigation scheduling. The Peanut Leafspot, Pecan Scab, and Watermelon Anthracnose disease models keep track of disease infection hours and indicate the best time to apply a fungicide. There are also insect pest models for monitoring Alfalfa Weevil and Pecan Casebearer development. These disease and insect pest models help maximize pest control and pesticide effectiveness.

Natural Resource Management Models:

On AgWeather, you can access models that assess fire danger and anticipated pollutant dispersion. The Oklahoma Fire Danger Model is an internationally recognized model that can be used in management decisions related to both wildfires and prescribed burning. The Oklahoma Dispersion Model can be used in scheduling pesticide application, animal waste application, and prescribed burning. In conjunction with these applications, 60-hour NGM MOS forecasts provide weather variable predictions in 3-hour increments out to the end of the forecast period.

When the Storm Hits:

In Oklahoma, planning for storms is just a normal part of agricultural operations. AgWeather lets you monitor front movement across Oklahoma. If a storm does pop up, you'll have radar that can pinpoint what is happening down to the nearest section road. The WxScope plugin provides zoomable NEXRAD radar images with city and state highway overlays. With a few clicks on the mouse, you'll be looking at NEXRAD radar at a _-mile by _-mile clarity.

Recordkeeping:

Keeping records can be tedious and time consuming. It's one of those things you know you should do, but seldom have time to get done. When it comes to weather records, AgWeather can provide you detailed charts of weather data. These charts can viewed, then printed, or saved within seconds, rather than hours.
