The Oklahoma Alfalfa Weevil Model is a tool which can be used in making pest management decisions. It was developed a number of years ago by Oklahoma State University entomologists and researchers in other states. The model will help growers determine the need and proper timing for insecticide applications to avoid serious weevil damage.

Using the Interactive Spraying Recommendation Form on this web site, a grower can easily obtain the model recommendations for his or her site, using weather data from the nearest Oklahoma Mesonet station.

The Oklahoma Alfalfa Weevil Model operates from December through August. During December, only the temperature information associated with possible egg mortality will be available. Beginning January 1, degree-day totals will begin accumulating. Beginning February 1, temperature information associated with possible larvae mortality will be added.

Customers new to this model are strongly encouraged to read the Model Description to understand its physical basis, the proper scouting procedures, and how to use the model.

DISCLAIMER

As with any pest management model, recommendations from the Oklahoma Alfalfa Weevil Model are intended only as tools in making pest management decisions. They are not intended to replace the best judgment of the grower in making these decisions.
